Where have I been?!

Hello all! Long time no update

Sorry about that but I am intending to get back into the swing of things again soon. I have put a couple of recent pics up on Facebook and will do some on the blog soon.

A very quick update is that if you remember, the wife was pregnant. Well we’ve had a lovely little girl but she wasn’t well at all at first and took quite a few weeks in hospital to get to the stage that we could bring her home and be a family. Hence why I haven’t had much time to update with that along with making our home ready for the baby!

The leg is still sore and the last couple of days also a bit smelly

I will update the blog soon to fill in some more of the story and get you all up to date on where we are with my leg. Thank you for being patient!

Boo!

Well where do I start? I haven’t updated I know and recently my life has been turned upside down!

Some good, some bad but recently absolutely brilliant but very unexpected!

What am I talking about? Well it was the birth of our first child! The pregnancy has been a bit of a trial and she has been born by Caesarian section 3 weeks early due to complications but is gorgeous. Health wise she’s not 100% at the moment but certainly could be much worse so you will have to bear with me while I deal with life other than ulcers. She’s still in
Hospital as is mother and time is taken between sleep and them and wouldn’t have it any other way!

Ulcers are still with me and are not good at the moment an sore but life as I say has got in the way and I’m all over the place!

Hello there everyone! I am still here!

It’s been a tough couple of months my end and I do apologise. I still have loads of images to post and the baby is fine (and still “cooking”!) but there has been a lot of other things going on meaning the Internet etc has had to take a bit of a back seat.

Normal service should resume shortly.

Crying is uselss?

I know, I’ve not posted recently but thought I would after a comment tonight. My leg is not particularly good at the moment and we were talking about crying due to it being so painful or just what seems like the hopelessness. My response was “Why, it won’t make it any better!”.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m nothing special but I think at times I’m so used to it, I may feel like crying at times but really where would it get me? Is that wrong?

A brief explanation

I think I owe the readers of this blog an
explanation of why I have been absent for a little while. Since coming back off holiday I have been busy at work and now I’m also trying to totally redecorate a room in the house for a new arrival we are expecting to the family. Yes, that’s right, I’m going to be a father (for the first time!) so have been a little busy!

I have been keeping up with the photos and will get around to them soon when I finish the room. It’s not been brilliant and the shin and top under the knee have broken down a bit again. Nowhere near as bad as it could be but certainly a step in the wrong direction

Sneaky peek

Holiday time

Hello all again. This is just a quick update to let you know that I am currently on holiday hence no updates.

I am returning soon and will post more then but a sneak update is that it is better than it has been. This holiday has seen plenty of walking up and down hills etc and it’s so far behaved very well! Still some pain but not much and easily treatable with the painkillers.

All of this is good news as at least I’ve been able to unwind and relax, something I don’t do often enough I think! Anyway, best get back to it!

I actually found this site on a pen that someone was using at work and it caught my eye. Worth a look to see what products are out there and available.

Photos from 4 June to 4 July

Here are the photos I promised yesterday. I have kept them to a minimum if not your browsers may well give up while trying to load them all!

You will see from the early ones the wound bed was a bit of a funny colour. By that I mean the bed had a few flecks of yellowish gunk in them, however I used a topical antibiotic cream which I have been given. Like most antibiotics though it can not be used for to long a period of time without it becoming useless. However, it seems to have done it’s job and the wound has cleared up for now!

Where have you been?!

I said I would post soon and here I am! It’s been really busy in the “ulcer household”. I’ve been away on a residential intensive course recently learning how to teach! Anyway, that is over (well, nearly as I have to complete a 4,000 word assignment now) and I can get back to updating again.

I haven’t got access to the photos tonight so they will go up in a separate post tomorrow.

You may be wondering what the relevance of a tennis player has on a site like this? Well, if you remember, a lot of my problems stem from when I had DVT’s and also a PE (pulmonary embolism).

I found this story that caught my eye, worth a read!

I had a lot of swelling in my leg, which really is a telltale sign of an embolism, and I could not breathe,” Williams said.

She said doctors couldn’t find anything in her leg and then ordered a CT scan of her lungs.

“That’s when they found several blood clots,” Williams said. “They told me that they had to check me in immediately or else … it wasn’t going to be a good result.

Chameleon Bandage to Help Wounds Heal

Another piece I found in the news which may in the future help leg ulcer suffers is this “Chameleon Bandage” which contains temperature-sensitive fibers that change colour in the presence of heat generated by infections or inflammation.

“An Australian researcher is developing a bandage that could help treatment of chronic wounds by changing color to reveal the state of the wound beneath.

The invention could improve the quality of life of many, as well as reduce the $500 million cost of chronic wound care in Australia.

“What I’ve developed is something that changes color in response to changes in temperature,” says van der Werff, who is doing the research as part of a PhD at Monash University in Melbourne.

The research is also supported by a manufacturer of bandages.”

The cycle continues

OK, well here we go. You will probably remember that I have said on Twitter and Facebook that the leg ulcers have gone downhill again. They were what I would have called healed but now, not so!

I mentioned last time (in this post) that there was what I called a blister sack on the ankle. Well, it would appear that this has slowly opened up into a deep ulcer on the ankle again. The start of it can be seen on the first set of images for this update from the 22 May 2011
